RULES CLARIFICATION: 03 Jun 08
I have been asked about typical portions of the fairways that have not been cut as to whether you can take relief, or not. Ex. #6 Buck, #7 Buck, #1 Doe, #1 Fawn
You may NOT take relief due to the Local Rule of “Preferred Lies”. Winter Rules (or Preferred Lies) are used for “closely mowed areas which are fairway height, or less. Since these areas are greater than fairway height, you are not allowed relief under that provision. However, if Casual Water exists, you may take relief per Rule 25-1.
How to take relief when a ball crosses an Environmentally Sensitive Area and ends up in a lateral water hazard. Ex. #9 Buck, #6 Doe.
If the playing group agrees that the ball last crossed into the lateral water hazard from an Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA), then the player shall proceed under a penalty of one stroke, obtaining relief under Rule 26-1. One of the options under Rule 26-1 will result in a drop into the Environmentally Sensitive areas (ESA). If that option is used, you may then go to the nearest point of relief from the ESA. You must still take the one stroke penalty for relief from the water hazard.
